Choosing a method
Equal per person divides the total by the number of people, so each housemate pays the same.
By custom usage weight gives each housemate a share in proportion to their weight — useful when one room has an extra heater, an en-suite or a home office.
Tips
Weights are relative: 1, 1 and 2 simply means the third housemate pays twice the first. Keep the agreement in writing so the monthly split is never a surprise.
